Conversation with Building
I talked to a building the other day. I tried to record it, and this is what I’m left with. I remember it telling me, the stories of its materials, the experiences within its walls, the past within its furniture. The building says, it used to be silent. Then, humans arrived, and it found its voice. Its life became more colourful. Humans helped to record the memories, on the walls, on the tables, reminding the building day by day, how old everything has become. Sometimes, humans come to take away things that are too old, causing it to forget about them. The building is very sorry that it couldn’t tell me more about things that used to be here. Then the building tells me more about its recent stories, how humans recently used the space. There seems to be an art exhibition. Students seem to have fun in the studio.
I was curious, so I asked: “What if humans stop visiting?”
“……”
I realised I’ve reached an empty wall.
The building seems to have lost its voice.
